Best solution for separating dogs who hate eachother

Recently, my boy dog started hating my mom's boy dog. One emergency vet visit later, we were desperate for a solution. We bought kennels (at the advice of dog trainer) to keep the dogs in when they started to be grumpy, and would lock the boys in separate rooms when we were gone, but it was absolutely miserable. The boys would growl at each other the entire time they were in the kennels, and they started destroying the doors in bedrooms when they felt trapped.I bought this out of desperation, thinking that it was a long shot that it would make any difference, but it has been amazing! When my parents bring their dog over, we can lock one dog on each side of gate, and they calm down within a few minutes. Even when they are left home alone, they no longer obsess over hating eachother. They seem less stressed being locked behind a gate then they did being locked in a room. I think it because they can still see what's going on in the living room, and know they aren't missing out on anything each other. One thing to note, they gate can be a little difficult to open for elderly since you need the strength to slightly pull gate upwards in order to open it. It's not super heavy, but if grip strength is a huge issue, I'm not sure this would be a good fit. Also, it has a slight tripping hazard, since there is a bar across gate opening about 2 inches above ground level. My mom tripped on it once at night, so I got a night like that I put right next to the gate, and we haven't had any problems since then :)
