Review on Peerless ST650P Tilt Wall Mount: Ideal Black Display Mount for 39-75 inch Screens by David Hodgson

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Great low cost solution

I bought this mount to wall mount a 50" Panasonic TH-50PX75U plasma and couldn't see why I would pay $200-$400 for a mount when I was able to get it from Revain for a lot less and I wasn't disappointed.Convinced that I would need to hire a professional to install it.But when I saw that it cost between $300 and $400 I decided to take the job myself .I'm glad I did because it was very easy. The first thing to do before ordering this stand is to make sure you know where the stands are located in your wall. This mount is suitable for wood, concrete and cinder blocks. For wood studs, it works with two or three studs, just make sure they are no more than 24" away from the outside. The mon tagepad is wider but you want to install it in the middle of the studs. Also, make sure it works with your TV. This will work with most 32" to 50" TVs, but if you are unsure visit the Peerless website to find your TV model. Once you've checked out and ordered, setup is pretty easy. . Mark and align the studs and assemble the backplate. It took me (a very average DIYer) 10 minutes to make this part. The hardest part was driving the fittings into the studs as the joists were thick. Peerless simplifies your choice of mounting hardware by offering screw kits based on the material you are mounting the TV to. The second step is to attach the swivel brackets to the back of the TV. Again, this was very easy as Peerless gives you a guide that tells you which screws to use to mount your TV, depending on your TV model. It comes with many different options, so you most likely have the right hardware to complete this step. The hardest part of this step, in my opinion, was making sure the brackets were installed the same way, top to bottom on the TV. I measured a couple of times but missed the right hole twice before I got it right. But still a simple process. Tighten the screws on your TV, make sure the tilt knobs are locked and you are ready to lift the TV into place. My TV weighs about 90 pounds so it was a two person job (probably should have been 3). Luckily my TV has handles on the bottom to lift it, which made it lighter but still tough since I set it up 6ft off the ground. It is very easy to attach the wall mount, then put on the bottom. After you've mounted it to the bracket, you'll need to level the TV horizontally (which means making sure it's centered the way you want it). Peerless says you shouldn't adjust it more than 4 inches either way. After placing it horizontally, insert the security screws into the base (which was a little tricky given how close the wall mount is, but if you've got a long screwdriver it's easy). You can then loosen the vertical tilt knobs and adjust the TV vertically as desired, then tighten the knobs again. inserted into the studs and the security screws in place. And a great bargain price. The only thing I think could be an issue depending on the TV is that you might have trouble accessing the rear AV ports. The Panasonic I have has all the ports pretty low down so I can rotate them a bit with the toggles and access the ports. I suspect if you don't buy one of those mounts that recline, you'll come across it with every mount.

Pros
  • Great price
Cons
  • Big and bulky
