Review on TERK Dual Drive Amplified Indoor Antenna by Andrew Gomez

Revainrating 5 out of 5

I hope this review was helpful

I bought this product for one reason only. I'm an NPR (news and music) addict. And I work in a steel building. Until recently, I was able to stream music to my office over the internet. Due to the nature of our business, we have recently tightened our internet security and banned audio streaming. Anyway, I was on the committee that made the decision. I ordered a Terk hoping that my Tivoli Audio One at the office could pick up a signal from Des Moines (65 miles) or Ames (45 miles). I actually managed to pull our local country radio station. How does a hand clap sound? complete failure. All but the strongest FM signals were immediately broadcast from the building to the ground. I think I'll be listening to the same 4 gigs of copied music day after day until I retire in 8 years. So I took home radios from Tivoli and Terk and tried them out in my garage. Completely impressed. Used to receive Iowa Public Broadcasting Stations with lots of interference. No longer. The reception is as if you were several kilometers away from the transmitter. money well spent? For me maybe not - it didn't solve the insurmountable problem I was trying to solve. But is it a damn VHF antenna? Yes, unless you're trying to listen to FM in a steel office building (with poles and siding). But again, yes. I receive clean FM stations, which I hardly heard before Terlk. I will not attempt to return this product. Like the reception at home. I'd like to have Des Moines and Ames stations in my office, but there's no arguing about physics. One more thought. The signal amplification really works. Now I hear a "weak" signal in the garage. If I lower the gain, the transmitter disappears. When cranked all the way up, a very good horn fills my garage with classical music. money well spent.

Pros
  • High performance VHF antenna in a compact package
Cons
  • Crumpled packaging
