Nice doormat but doesn't fit under the door

I wanted a doormat for high traffic areas and it looked nice. It's a good rug and a good size (in terms of width) but it has one significant problem. I can't open the door when he's in there. The thickness seeps under the door and either prevents it from opening at all, or the door simply pushes the mat aside. Right now I have to position it far enough from the door to open it and it just looks bad so I have to use it for something else and look for a better one.
