Can someone explain to me why everyone who makes a folding grill assumes that everyone who buys this grill will need to drain the liquid they want to cook with from the bottom plate when cooking in some sort Drip tray or pan grills? When I decide to cook vegetables, I like to pour some water on the grill grate to steam. This grill doesn't even allow that. You can't tell from the website photos, but the bottom panel has a series of holes to drain any liquid or juice you might want to use. Your only other option (besides buying another product) is to place aluminum foil on the griddle. That's fine I guess, but it creates another problem. What is now known about using aluminum foil for cooking is now dangerous. Aluminum foil releases toxic chemicals when heated. It should only be used to store and coat food. You cannot bend the aluminum foil around the edges of the bottom plate because when the top plate is lowered onto the bottom plate it is so tight that when you open the top plate again the aluminum foil will be pulled up and away from the bottom plate and the food will fly everywhere. . The foil must be cut so that it does not protrude beyond the edges of the grill plate. If you do not use aluminum foil, oil, fat or water will drip into the pan under the base plate. This small drip tray slides in and out on the right side of the grill. My first attempt at covering the sheet with aluminum foil failed because when the sheet was placed in the grill the foil would shatter when the foil was folded around the edges of the sheet, which of course would cause the pan to slip in the rails. If it is to stay clean, a foil cup should be formed in the drip tray. The only reason I am able to get such a high price for this item is that it is digital. If not, then you would have $60. barbecue at hand. Anyway, this grill is only around $60-75. Is that a nice grill? Yes, that's right. But that's the only thing I like about him. Good cooking? Yes, that's right. But any forty dollar grill will do the same. Do I like this grill? Like, like, something like. Can I recommend this grill to you? The only thing I will say, buy at your own peril and peril, I'm not happy. Something else should be brought to your attention. I enjoyed using my old GE grill because the temperature range was low enough to thaw food. This grill will not go below 325 degrees. So there is no defrosting with this grill. I've now used my new grill twice and I like it a little less with every ill thought out idea that goes into it. No flat plate for tortillas, eggs or beacons. I now realize that this poorly designed product was made for one purpose only. Deserve. Hey guys from GF. I have an idea. Why don't you ask people what they want in a grill feature? As in the reviews asking why there is no flat plate! Better thinking in product design would go a long way. Like a lid that doesn't swing like it's about to fall off in your hand. And what were you thinking, making the lid so heavy? It feels like it will fall back when opened. Which brings me to another question. If you're going to make the lid that heavy, why not make it flat so you can use both sides of the grill at the same time? The flat plate question could easily be answered by making the top plate flat and making it interchangeable with the bottom plate. Of course, small burn marks on food cannot be made worse by a flat plate. Simply flip what you're cooking and create any pattern you want. On Tuesday I will be reconfiguring this grill for a Zom machine for one reason only. It doesn't have a flat top. I don't mind taking a little time to learn the little quirks of using a new kitchen tool, but this design could be a lot better. This grill is a one trick pony.
