We fly an amphibious aircraft and fly to very remote places. We have this setting, so when we take off we press the button at the bottom center that says we are leaving this place and it shows the latitude and the time. When we arrive at the landing point we press the left middle button and a message will appear that we are fine and that we have landed in this place. Most of our flights fly over Lake Michigan so our kids know we made it and we feel comfortable knowing we can call 911 if we need help. Yes we have cell phone but coverage is limited where we fly and SPOT uses satellites so it's always connected. Great little device and I recommend it to anyone who ventures off the beaten track. The annual fee is cheap insurance for this type of ability.
