Cost Saving Experiment

If you've been thinking about switching to APS-C mirrorless cameras from your smartphone or DSLR, this is a good deal. Used bodies are cheap, and since they're built like a tank, they should work just fine (if not abused). The same goes for lenses ("although I wouldn't call the 16-55 a tank, the 18-55 and 18-135 are definitely built as one"). And they'll still come in handy if one day you decide to upgrade to the XT1 or XT10, or whatever else comes to mind next time. I found the XE-1 to be excellent value for money; Indeed, if I understand many of the reviews (here and elsewhere) correctly, the sensor hasn't been significantly improved in any of the newer/nicer/more expensive models... so I thought it would be a great/cheap opportunity to try this system (I've since FF and APS-C DSLRs as well as Samsung NX1000 and 300 - after 3/4 try and Nikon --> sensors are too small). I've been looking for something lighter/more compact for a few years. I like it better than Samsung (the only fair comparison as both are APS-C). Build quality is very similar, but having learned on real (film) cameras, I like that the Fuji doesn't require me to dig through the menus for options as much as the Samsung. Not to mention that I've never been able to see much on screens in the sun. The XE-1's electronic viewfinder is excellent; that alone outperforms my Samsungs. In terms of design, I like simple, modern Samsungs a little more. However, Fuji is a bit more grippy - the case is not as smooth/"slippery". Not sure about lens quality yet, more direct comparisons should be made (zoom vs zoom, Samsung 30mm pancake vs 30mm). Fujinon 27mm). I will update this review as soon as I have something useful to report.
