I am a carpenter with over 40 years of experience. I have an arsenal of sharpeners, but I'm always looking for something new. I stumbled across this diamond sharpening system on the internet and was picked up by a convincing British barker and his trusty housekeeping assistant. Trust me, this system doesn't work at all like the videos show. Diamond impregnated inserts remove material quickly, but leave a network of scratches on the tool that is not only difficult to polish, but also results in a very short-lived cutting edge. I've tested it on my chisels, carving tools, and Forstener bits, but found I had to resharpen them with my traditional oilstone and buff the edges with a hard Arkansas stone. Desperate for a way to justify this (expensive) purchase, I found the system to perform exceptionally well in two areas. It is excellent for touching up carbide burs and extending professional sharpening intervals. It also works very quickly in place of a kitchenware sharpener, where the sharp blade it produces is an asset for easily slicing meat. Hence the two stars.
