Review on Amcrest Doorbell Detection Weatherproof Wide Angle by Shawn Quick

The shortcomings of the previous model have been eliminated

AD410 is a new improved doorbell camera from Amcrest. I installed the previous model AD110 in my Florida home last year and wanted the same security benefits for my New Hampshire property. In this new version I generally see that the shortcomings of the AD110 have been corrected. A higher resolution sensor is always welcome: AD110:1920x1080 -> AD410:2560x1920. At night, the low-light sensitivity seems to be much better. When there's a street light, I can turn off the IR and get a great color image at night. The camera mount has also been improved. A new base mounting plate gives you extra room to run your doorbell wires, and Amcrest offers two additional wedges to tilt the camera up or down, or left and right. I used a left/right wedge to get a perfect view of my front passage. Setup was easy and identical to that of the AD110, using the Amcrest Smart Home app and scanning a QR code. The "bell adapter" you plug into your doorbell at home is the same and still too big for my doorbell. If the plug were recessed into the block, it might just about fit. I have it at the top of the call. Amcrest added a micro USB port on the back, which I used to power the camera and set it up at home. I later read that they use this connection for testing purposes and do not provide a data connection. There is also a micro SD card on the back of the camera. What this model lacks is a choice of a black or silver cover, but to be honest trying to remove the cover to get to the camera was a bit of a challenge for me. And instead of a tiny screw, they now provide a tool (or you can use a small paper clip) to remove the camera from the bottom panel. Human detection is a great addition and eliminates false alarms, for example in Florida I get motion alerts only to spot a gecko looking at me. However, I had to disable people detection as my townhouse faces my neighbor's house and I am notified when they enter or exit. As with my AD110, I use the AD410 with the Blue Iris DVR software. This is a HUGE plus in my book and an opportunity I don't see with other doorbells. The AD410 also supports MicroSD for your own local storage and Amcrest cloud storage available as a service after a free introductory offer.
