Update: Not too bad but needs more boost. Using this in my glove box as a dust collector right now lol. We used Bingfu's magnetic mount antenna which was phenomenal on RX/TX. After using it for a while it doesn't really deliver the signal I wanted. I was able to find a similar NMO to the magnetic mount I mentioned, so it hasn't been installed yet. However, there is no difference between this antenna and the Midland Ghost antenna. So if you are thinking about buying one of the can antennas I would recommend Laird. But it's not so bad if you need a small antenna. Soldering the pad didn't improve reception or transmission, just glued the pad to the antenna rod. It comes with this antenna and an NMO base with tram magnet mount. Decided that I should keep the same name for the wiring. Of course I have a cord that sticks out, so mine sticks out a little; but still not that noticeable. To strengthen unity - I'm not sure. I don't have an SWR meter to check but I think it's not that bad. Seems good for what it is. Range test - not yet done. There are mountains around me so this little guy can't go more than a mile. I have a small "relay". I can use my other two GMRS radios as a "base station" to extend the range. Or at least spend some Kerchanks to see if I can get to the Relay Square. I will compare this to the Midland Ghost antenna I also have. Probably 3dB more than the small pot that pushes my wattage down to 30W; with hope. And customized specifically for my MXT275. Let's see how they compare to the standard antenna which performs surprisingly well! I was very surprised that it got so far further than the tram. But like I said, I'll have to run some more tests and see what happens next. My first test was in the rain and the location of my "repeater" wasn't ideal. I still like the antenna - it picks up weather channels very clearly! Was a bit skeptical that NOAA reception is pre-configured. One thing I didn't really like was where the rod meets the NMO pad on the antenna itself; has an open hole and appears to be dented? To my displeasure, I fired up my soldering iron and applied a very thin coat across the entire pad, filling in the hole to ensure all connections were connected. a little "higher and higher" but could literally take about 3 seconds. during the production process. Btw there is another Tram GMRS rod antenna with the same part number and all; but in the photo a little higher and in the specifications it is indicated. Not sure if a particular variant is fake or a "newer" version? Would like to know what the difference is. And the other one is about 5-6 dollars more expensive; $13 and some loose change. I only paid 8 something. Anyway, I'll be back here when I have my test results! 5/10!
