Review on Motorcraft ASHV9 Rear Shock Absorber by Keith Leach

Revainrating 5 out of 5

High quality direct replacement at an amazing price, easy to install!

I wouldn't even try other dampers, especially not at this price! Ordered two for a 2004 Focus. The car went from scary to rails in about half an hour's work (I got a ride). They are sold individually and must be replaced in pairs. It comes with a top mounting nut, but you will need to reuse the old hardware from the original shock. Before fully disassembling, take a photo or note of the old shock absorber as it will help during reassembly. The instructions show how to reuse the fender in a specific position. It comes with a new dust cover, but you can save a few seconds by reusing the old cover if you want. The bottom screws are reused. To access the top nuts from the trunk, pull back the panels. The easiest way is to slide them forward and then pull them up and out. For final access, a piece of styrofoam should be covered with glue. Just replace them when you're done to reduce traffic noise. torque according to spec. If you disengage the shock with the suspension fully relieved, it will not drop more than about an inch, if at all. You'll have to squeeze it a bit to get the bottom screw in place.

Pros
  • Ensures a smooth ride
Cons
  • Has flaws
