March 23rd, 2021 Update on my purchase of this thermometer: The first one was defective as it differed greatly in temperature readings. The seller immediately exchanged it for a new device. The new block worked fine for about a month - then the LED began to dim sharply. Checked for water inside (there was none) and replaced the battery with 2 different batteries - the display was still dark. If there is some moisture, let the device dry on a counter with the battery compartment open. Battery reinstalled 2 days later - no change - still dark and unreadable. I was frustrated when I thought I'd gotten an offer on an aquarium thermometer that was easy to read and accessible. Meaning? If you decide to buy one - I hope you have a better experience than I did with the two devices I've tried.
