These bulbs have a cut out in the middle. This means that if you try to use them with a suction cup on the ceiling of a cathedral, the suction cup has very little surface area to grip (I also have a monstrously sized suction cup, not a standard suction cup). As a result, the suction cup slides very easily even when simply screwing in the light bulb. The saving grace is that the lids are plastic, not glass. Even if I hadn't caught the lightbulb as it fell, it probably wouldn't have broken. I finally managed to turn it on, but the light was colder than I expected. Given the other issue of not being able to use them for my particular application, I'm sending them back. May be suitable for hand tightening, although I've also noticed that the diameter is slightly smaller than the standard par 38.
