Review on πŸ”Œ Camco 55195 30ft PowerGrip Heavy-Duty Outdoor 50-Amp RV Extension Cord - Extended Reach for Distant Power Outlets, Long-lasting & Reliable by John Barnett

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Works great with a constant 40 amp load when charging an electric car

I took this extension cord on a nearly 6000 mile trip with my 2015 Tesla Model S 85D and this extension cord allowed me to easily reach it 240 outlets in 4 friends/family houses we stayed at to charge our car for the night. I ended up using NEMA 10-30 and 14-30 adapters to be able to charge from dryer outlets and just used a NEMA 14-50 charging extension cord. It's heavy and bulky, but it fits easily in the trunk and we could fit a ton of other things in it. The purchase is definitely worthwhile and significantly expands the charging options. This 30ft cable, along with the Gen 1 mobile connector that Tesla comes with, is 20ft long, meaning we can reach outlets up to 50ft away! We've never needed it, but we used to park in our driveway and this cord gets us through the garage and into the laundry room at home. The biggest inconvenience is that the cable is very thick and causes all the doors to stay open an inch while charging, but that's not the cable's fault. As far as extension cords go, this cord is quite expensive, but given the harsh conditions, I think the price is worth it. I was never able to charge at the full 40 amps that this cable is capable of as all the circuits I connected were 30 amps. Charged at 24 amps overnight and the cord was still cold but that doesn't say much.
