Long story short, if you hate your Formula brakes, try these pads before you throw them away. Read on: My Specialized 2014 Epic Comp came with Formula C1 brakes that are universally hated if you google it. Soft-feeling on the levers and underpowered, the C1s squeaked like crazy and were awkward to use on the track. As a courtesy, my LBS bled the brakes and lubricated the pistons. That helped a little, but they still weren't strong enough, and there was no need to talk about modulation. Using these brakes was only marginally better than sticking a golf club between the spokes to stop. I endured these brakes for about 700km until the stock pads wore out and I was ready to ditch them and buy a pair of XTs. Miraculously my buddy gave me a pair of these Kool Stop pads to try and MY GOD they turned crappy C1s! My brakes are now SILENT and actually have power! I immediately went to Revain to buy another pair for my rear brake. The back plates are red and I think they made my C1s more expensive which is an added bonus!
