Wires appear to be real stainless steel. These sink strainers work. But the wires are a bit flimsy and their attachment to the top of the frame seems weak. I'm concerned about how long the wires can stay on the frame. The design of the top of the frame also makes it difficult to clean. A brush is required, not just a quick rinse. Update: A few weeks have passed and as I sadly predicted the mesh is falling apart - the wires tearing from the ring. I am changing my rating to 1 star and will look for something else.
