Doesn't stand still

I had to reset this mirror at least 6 times. I don't know what the problem is, it looks the same as the original. I put the original back in and it snapped into place and then I tried to put in a new one and it kept falling off. I went as far as to say gosh I just smack it hard with my palm and if it breaks it's going to break and I have to go with the original part. It's still there at the moment, but I don't dare touch it for fear it might come loose again.
