Review on ๐Ÿ“บ Boost XT Pro Winegard - Outdoor Preamplifier with Integrated Channel Finder for Ultra-Low Noise by Sherrill Jensen

Works well with an indoor antenna if the preamplifier is connected close to the antenna.

Works very well when the preamplifier can be mounted very close to the antenna. I tried this with two different indoor antennas. In the foreword I will say that I live 40 miles from the TV tower in sight. I used a Mohu sheet antenna mounted indoors on the wall facing the towers. I have multiple networks but I can't receive ABC at all. So the goal was to add this channel. With the Mohu sheet, this amp makes a HUGE difference! He added over 20 channels to channel scan and now all networks are coming in consistently. This includes ABC, which didn't exist at all before. Fiction! However, this only has a strong effect if the preamp is mounted very close to the Mohu. Mohu comes with a long cable that detaches at the base of the antenna. I've tried placing the preamp and power supply from this kit at the end of the long cable closest to the TV and this only slightly improved reception. Then attach the preamp near the base of the Mohu board with a 3ft short cable, then a long cable (supplied by Mohu), then the power supply and the TV. This had a big impact on the reception! So make sure you connect it this way. I tried this with a GE indoor antenna, model GE 34137, which advertises a range of up to 60 miles. This amplifier did not have a major impact on this antenna. This is probably because the GE antenna cable is non-removable, so you can only connect both the preamp and the power supply to the end of its long cable away from the antenna. I believe if the GE antenna had a detachable cable so the preamp of this kit could be plugged in close to it the effect would be huge as well. So this kit works very well, even on an indoor antenna! However, make sure that the preamplifier can be connected very close to your antenna. Otherwise, the reception is only slightly improved. When properly connected, I'm seeing a huge improvement in reception, the number of channels discovered, and the addition of important networks that I couldn't get to before. Now I get all the important networks in order.

Pros
  • Winegard Boost XT Pro expands the capabilities of any unboosted antenna, providing a clearer signal, longer range and more channels available. Only works with any passive/non-amplified antenna.
Cons
  • Upgradable
