If you're building a compact photo/video kit, then the Sony Zeiss 55/1.8 will fit in perfectly - even if it's a single lens (thanks to the universal FR). He is strong and street and portrait and landscape sketches. It is difficult to say whether it is now worth the money - but the quality of the picture will definitely not disappoint. Some pros: Surprisingly sharp and characteristic baby with a recognizable Zeiss pattern. On the plus side: 1. Ringing sharpness, starting from the open. Easily resolves Sony a7RIII / IV camera matrices. 2. Small size and weight. A perfect demonstration of what quality mirrorless optics (even if not the fastest) should be. 3. Sonnar scheme - it is thanks to it that the bright character inherent in this lens is manifested. Beautiful bokeh with a plastic pattern, while the zones of drunkenness are not blurred into Gaussian spots. Gorgeous rich color. 4. Despite its venerable age, it focuses quickly and quietly. Manual focusing, although it is implemented electronically, also causes only positive emotions - a smooth running of the ring, a linear response. 5. Excellent design, only glass and metal are visible from the outside. A quality hood is included. 6. The front lens is not convex, as usual, but slightly concave. A trifle, but there is less chance of getting a scratch (especially with the lens hood removed). 7. Filter diameter 49mm, buying quality protection will not ruin. Some points that can hardly be called shortcomings - rather features: 1. When shooting in backlight (for example, the sun at the edge of the frame), flare of a strange elongated shape may occur - this effect is produced by the concave shape of the front optical element. 2. Moderate CA can be observed at contrasting boundaries. However, this is an integral part of the picture and does not spoil the impression at all. 3. On the body of the AF / MF switch and, in general, any control elements. A kind of minimalism :) 4. No serious dust / moisture protection was noticed, there is no elastic band on the bayonet. Different cons: In fact one is a high price, despite the age and second-hand. Some weirdo labeled this glass "mini-opus" and now everyone is speculating on this. No guys, this is not Zeiss Otus 55 / 1.4 - these are completely different classes of optics.
