I'm new to calligraphy and fountain pens, so I was a bit confused when I discovered that the three ribbon nibs were tilted to the right. This means that the edge of the flat pin is slanted rather than straight. (Google images illustrate this better than words.) Writing with this requires you to position the tip of the pen differently than you would with a ruler, so you'll need to learn a bit if you've only practiced writing with a straight pen like this , which you can find on the Pilot Parallel Pen. Also, like most (all?) nibs, I had to prime it before use by running it through a flame. . (I highly recommend doing a little research online for more detailed instructions/tips/warnings on how to do this properly so as not to damage your tips). Washing in boiling water and then in soapy water didn't help, but the flame did.
