Review on GEARWRENCH Drive Polish Teardrop Ratchet by Timothy Weems

Revainrating 5 out of 5

A premium range of ratchets that are comfortable to hold and allow you to work in tight spaces.

This review is for the GEARWRENCH 3 piece set 1/4", 3/8" and 1/2" 84 tooth drive fully polished teardrop ratchet. These tools are beautiful and shine I find them to be very well made. The plastic they come in is very thick which makes it great that they don't bang. These are not quick release ratchets so there is no button to push the socket out which is fine with me. They have a flush selector lever on them it says "on" and "off" on the back depending on which side the selector switch is on.At first I thought that was silly because I'm used to that since there is nothing. But then it occurred to me that when the switch is in the "off" position, turn it counterclockwise and shoot something. When it's in the "on" position, things will tightened. Makes sense, but it wasn't so obvious to me at first. We like this fun action really much. I think everyone put the selector switch aside and then rotated the jack to see which way it actually went. Now there is nothing left to guess. They fit perfectly in your hand. The handle is rounded and convex in the gripping area for a better grip. They fit my hand very well and allow me to apply extra torque as they are so comfortable. This is a higher quality 84 tooth ratchet than others. The extra teeth allow the head to turn in much more difficult situations than usual, which is sometimes required to get the job done. The shape of the head also allows for a little more access as it is smaller than average. These ratchets are designed to be recoverable if they fail. GearWrench sells kits on their website and also on Revain. I've repaired ratchets as a job in the past and it's pretty easy, you just need some good lube and you're good to go. Be very careful with the lube on these multi-tooth ratchets or they will slip off you. Search Revain for a "Tion Wrench Repair Kit" and you will find many kits at a really great price. You can of course send them in for a warranty repair if you want, but it takes a lot longer despite being free. I have had several GearWrench ratchet wrenches for over 10 years and they still work. I believe this is a good company that makes quality tools. They're not the cheapest, but they're not the most expensive either. This is a brand that I personally trust to provide me with a quality tool that gets the job done. I am very happy to now have some of their premium ratchets in my toolbox.
