I am a professional with experience in high quality Zeiss, Leica, Nikon and Olympus microscopes, some of which cost several hundred thousand dollars cost and using advanced imaging technologies. I bought it for home use to look at various items I found on field trips. If you are a parent looking for a microscope for your science interested child or just a curious adult and just want to buy a microscope, get this one. It will be a pleasant purchase, much more pleasant than buying a compound binocular microscope (which is what most people think of when they think "microscope"). While the latter offers higher performance and is the standard for viewing slide-mounted samples, they are more difficult to use, image quality is progressively worse (even on high-end devices), samples require preparation, and quite frankly, they do it just doesn't fit. How interesting to watch. You won't be able to see individual cells, protozoa, etc., but you can see vivid images of everyday objects, such as bits of shell in the sand or fibers in a dollar bill, in very revealing and unexpected detail. This is a nice little stereo microscope. Very good picture quality, adjustable LED backlight (worth it compared to halogen bulbs which get very hot and burn out), compact size and very easy to use.
