Review on πŸ”Œ Griffin AutoPilot Charger for iPod and iPhone (Optimized 2010 Packaging) by Alan Estell

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Works great with iPhone 4

I used to use a Bluetooth car stereo with my iPhone until I had to trade the car it was in for a newer one. I used Bluetooth for audio streaming rather than phone functionality. Instead of using two cables in a new car (one for charging and one for outputting audio to the aux port), I was preparing to buy a different Bluetooth receiver when I came across Griffin Autopilot for iPod/iPhone . What really drew me to this device was that it only connected to the iPhone for charging and audio. I have a friend who literally wore out the headphone jack on his iPhone (3G) by constantly plugging and unplugging it, so I was a little worried about this possibility on my iPhone 4. The Griffin Autopilot design seems to have eliminated this problem. Lately I've been using a GPS app (MotionX Drive) with an iPhone that was draining the battery badly. The Autopilot Charger stays just above and can charge the iPhone's battery faster than MotionX is draining it. I recently had a two-hour ride with MotionX, and when the iPhone battery was about 50% charged, it took about 75 minutes to fully charge. Not bad considering how quickly MotionX can drain an iPhone's battery, it's almost intimidating. I didn't have any sound quality issues or interference as reported with the previous model (iPod only). This model is "Updated for iPhone" version and apparently there is no incompatibility message either. Given the location of the 12V outlet in my car, I find the iPod controls on the unit very convenient and easier to use than my iPhone's touchscreen while driving. At the time of writing this review, I've only been using the device for two weeks. and I have no reason to rate it below five stars. It does everything it says on the tin and if it holds up over time it will save me a ton of money on installing a Bluetooth receiver in my car. As such, I have absolutely no problem in strongly recommending this product at this time.
