Inexpensive. At any extreme magnification there will be some ghosting/shadowing and loss of focus, but that's not the lens' fault, this type of artifact is common at large zoom ranges. I can easily see this lens being used for amateur family outings. And if possible, use it with extension tubes or a home-made enlarger to get some interesting macro shots. However, this will only be used in the entertainment context and not as a solution for professionals or even for professionals. It can also be useful for beginners to use as a lens and decide which subject to focus on. The 7x magnification offers a wide range of applications, but lacks either the very wide lens that would be needed for truly majestic landscapes, or the extreme magnification for wildlife at long range. I'm sure USM is vital in some situations, but I haven't come across a situation where it makes a difference. .
