I've already had both regular plastic trays and a few plastic/silicone trays, but wanted a few more ice trays for the summer. Decided to try full silicone bowls, believing that they should be more easily recyclable than mixed material bowls if and when silicone recycling becomes available. The shells are smaller hexagonal cylinders designed to chill drinks faster than regular ice cubes. , as they have a larger surface-to-volume ratio. The shells are much more stable than normal flexible silicone "shells" thanks to the hexagonal shape. You don't have to slide anything underneath to move it from the faucet to the freezer (I usually carry the tray in my palm and wrist on one hand). And you don't have to worry about twisting too hard and cracking/breaking the tray. And vice versa. Side, it may take some force to unload the tray, both by twisting and pushing the bottoms of each required cell. I find it more efficient to hold the tray over a container larger than the tray's horizontal dimensions to empty the tray and then scoop ice into the beverage container. I also have a feeling (which I haven't tested) that it takes longer for water to freeze. (The same walls that stabilize the tray add more insulation?)
