Build quality looks solid. These are low-cut shoes, so don't expect the same protection as high boots. There is protection at the fingertip, but not very big. The protection in the heel area seems to be ok. Generally moderately protected areas around the foot. Not much foot padding on the bottom. This gives you a very light and not bulky shoe. You can add an insert. I'm not sure how well it will fit as the shoes are too tight. If you don't have a narrow toe, you definitely need a size up! I tried a half size and it was better but tight. Full length was comfortable. Because it's less bulky, you could walk in it, but not all day. The bottom treads appear to be good and fit well in the shoes. For regular cycling and short trips to the grocery store, the tread should last a while. It wasn't very thick, so if you're going on a hiking tour it might not last that long. Overall a good shoe, comfortable (one size up!), moderate protection, smooth. I would buy again.
