I love the protection factor in these boots and they don't look bad. I wouldn't want to wear them all day. I wear a size 9 1/2 so I usually have to buy a 10 to fit me if size is not available. These are still a bit tight. 1/2 size up will be a loose heel and probably still a little tight. Build quality looks solid. These are low-cut shoes, so don't expect the same protection as high boots. There is protection at the fingertip, but not very big. The protection in the heel area seems to be ok. Generally moderately protected areas around the foot. Not much foot padding on the bottom. This gives you a very light and not bulky shoe. Firstly I have to agree with people who say buy one size up especially if your feet are a little wider than usual. Secondly, I took off a star because I ordered "regular" riding shoes and received "ventilated" riding shoes but decided to keep them.
