Review on Penn-Plax AN2 Aqua Nursery Aquarium with Hatchery by Justin Miller

Excellent Nursery!

I was a bit skeptical on some of the reviews but this thing suits me perfectly. Everything fits together perfectly - no rubber bands needed! The only minor snag was that the hose that carries the fry from the main chamber to the side chamber was really too long which caused it to kink. Using regular scissors, cut off the extra quarter inch in about thirty seconds. I'd rather it be too long than not reach. And of course keep an eye on the return to the air pump, as it is probably higher. I installed a check valve just in case, and had no problems. I have the smallest air pump money can buy and the suction was near perfect. The cubs immediately found themselves under a layer of green where the mother could not reach them. One or two made it all the way straight away, others a little later. They have to go straight to the exit of the tube because the current is too strong for them to fight but it was easy enough chasing the others away once mama came out and they were completely safe the entire time so I'm very happy . This design is excellent. The slits that allow the water to pass are very thin, much smaller than they look in the picture because they taper from the outside in to encourage flow. This nursery has a wide distribution and I can't imagine young fish running away. The side camera is easy to remove - it's a lot easier than trying to fish out some small endlerfish and it's less stressful for them! It's been two weeks and I haven't had any deaths so this product certainly did the job. In summary, this nursery is something of a precision tool compared to others, but with a little fiddling (almost no in my case) it does a great job of keeping your roasts healthy and safe! In my book, meeting a box with holes and an eagle eyeing your pregnant fish.
