After reading all the horror stories about collapsing hydraulic lifters and premature engine overhauls due to the Chevy AFM system, I decided to use a bypass widget. Installed after disconnecting the negative battery cable, then started the engine (2018 Chevy Silverado 1500 with 5.3 liters and 24,000 miles). The unit worked as advertised and I never had a V4 drip during a 450 mile round trip with a small closed cargo trailer carrying about a ton of weight. Mileage dropped from 22mpg to 13mpg on the freeway, but all because of the brick-shaped trailer's poor aerodynamics. There were also some quirky prompts on the dash: roll the driver's window all the way down, then fully raise, open and close the driver's side door. I liked the quicker response when pulling off lights and red lights, and getting the truck out of that uncomfortable hovering feeling when switching from 8-cyl. for 4-cyl. More accurate shifting too.
