The pen is useless. If your intention is to throw it slowly into the jar, it's almost impossible because you can't adequately grab the "handle". I dropped them a couple of times which resulted in the brine splattering all over the place and the weight either going sideways or just falling to the ground lifting the fruit/veg up as it fell. They can be placed correctly without splashing. , but the descriptor makes it difficult to run on the first try or on each try if you're running multiple batches. They also go pretty deep, not sure if others are doing the same. I felt like my veggies might be swimming around after a few days because they were so low in the jar.
