Review on EASYGUARD EM209 Motorcycle Microwave Proximity by Brandon Peters

Cheap alarm and terrible instructions.

I am an ASE certified technician. I've been an auto mechanic for 30 years. I've installed hundreds of alarms on everything from boats to RVs. The instructions keep mentioning that this should be installed by a qualified person. The reason they mention it is to hide the poor quality of this product. By claiming this they could claim that you don't know what you are doing and if you were a "techie" you would have no problem installing this. Here are a few issues with this product.1. The manual and wiring diagram for this product are in Chinese. I looked at both options about 20 times before I understood what they were trying to say. 2. A. This alarm has a function of turning off the ignition. The ignition wiring goes from the ignition switch through the alarm system to the ignition. The problem is that most bike ignitions require wiring to be 14 gauge or better. Alarm wires are around 18-20 gauge. There is a way around this by using a combination of relays, but then you increase the price of this device. I got around this by cutting the wire to the fuel pump relay instead of the ignition. The fuel pump doesn't pull as hard.2. B. You need to install this ignition. It's not mandatory. If you don't connect the alarm to disable something that supplies voltage, you won't be able to disable the auto arm feature and it will charge automatically even when the bike is running. A simple voltage sensor in the alarm would have prevented this, but they didn't use it on this alarm, unlike almost every other alarm on the market. It is more than likely that you will save money. 2.C. I couldn't use a remote start because the flimsy alarm wires couldn't provide enough power for my bike's ignition system without causing a fire. This would also require a different relay, although the instructions make no mention of this. 3. The siren is not waterproof. mmm THE? How can a siren not be waterproof? It's fairly quiet at first, and after it's been buried to keep the elements out, you won't hear it indoors.4. The motion sensor is also not waterproof. It's also cheap and useless. He has to be outside to send a signal. It's not a problem in a car, but it's a big problem for a bike because it needs to be exposed to the elements to work. The double sided tape that comes with this alarm is generally nonsense. I removed all waxes and coatings with slime and then wiped with rubbing alcohol and then installed the antenna with the supplied tape. He fell before I got out the driveway.6. The range of the arming and disarming remotes is terrible. However, it does have a decent range to notify you when the alarm goes off. I don't understand why that is. My alarm went off so I went to check on my bike and couldn't turn it off from 30 feet away. I was eventually able to turn it off from about 15 feet away. There are a few good things about this alarm clock that I like. 1. The shock sensor works pretty well.2. It's a fairly small device, so it was easy to hide. I saw and installed a $20 alarm that was way better than this alarm. A gorilla or viper alert is a much better option than this alert. The cost of better tape, shrink wrap, and a two day install could have been saved by purchasing a better alarm. If you include these costs, you actually save with one of the slightly more expensive devices and get a much better alarm system.

Pros
  • Robust construction
Cons
  • Without machine
