I decided to try the Engenius ESR530 mesh router as it is incredibly easy to return an unsatisfactory product ordered from Revain, and that device was inexpensive. The first Amazon search products are displayed. Unboxing my new ESR530 router was very easy, minimal packaging for easy unboxing. My 2-pack mesh router came as advertised with 2 mesh routers, 2 power cords, 1 short ethernet cable (a lightweight and tangle-free long cable when connecting the first mesh router to my modem), and mounting screws for wall mounting. The packaging itself contains helpful tips and detailed product information that should be checked prior to installation. Downloading the ENMESH app from engius website was easy and the app interface is easy to set up. During setup, I had to play around with the router and modem a bit to make sure the modem was properly connected to the router. Once you've passed the startup phase, the app will guide you through one more step before connecting to the device you're using ENMESH on. I noticed that if I didn't accept the connection quickly, the connection would fail when I did. Another connection attempt and I connected immediately with no problems. After I set up my ENMESH account ID, WiFi name and password, the app offers the option to save the photo credentials with a screenshot. It's a subtle touch considering you can take regular screenshots of your phone, but it's handy. After passing the final verification, you have two options: add more devices or connect to ENMESH. The device is connected to the new Wi-Fi network you just set up, otherwise you will not be able to connect through the app. On the app's landing page, I see my exact internet speed test, a whopping 192.79 Mbps download speed and 12.43 Mbps upload speed on first launch. Adding a second device can be done through the prompt at the end of the initial setup. , but if like me you accidentally hit the wrong button, you can easily add additional devices from the ENMESH app, which follows the same intuitive process as the initial setup. To add a second router, you need to make sure it is within 3 feet of the original router, which is shown by the ENMESH app during setup. As soon as ENMESH detects a new device, you will be automatically prompted to select the device you want to set up. Once selected, ENMESH began setting up the device almost automatically. Pairing was flawless and I didn't have to do much to get it working. However, when I connected the second mesh router to the intended site, it didn't connect. I decided to move the block closer and see if it connects and voila! The key point seems to be that the second router can take a while to boot up in the new location and the red light will flash, but after about a minute or two it turned solid white and I was able to confirm the connection through the app. I like that the app shows the optimal range based on the color of the dotted line connecting the main device to all connected devices. It took a little longer than I expected but is a lot easier than previous home Wi-Fi setups.
