UPDATE: Had to remove the 'door' covering the top of the scale. I managed to get the pens out. So I can put a bigger box on the scale. Taking off a star for the effort and how it would look and feel without the lid. Today I received the goods. I opened the box and put the batteries that came with it in the scale. I was able to weigh my first piece right away. There is a sticker on the device that explains that you must remove the plastic parts under the cover of the scale before use. I removed them as needed. I then tried to peel off the sticker as it is no longer needed. but it doesn't come off easily, leaving an annoying glue on the top of the scale. I might try using a hair dryer to heat it up so it can be removed. Or maybe some alcohol swabs will work? The scale has a door that protects the top of the scale. Unfortunately, this makes it difficult to place larger items on the scale. Why on earth did they design it that way? Maybe it would be a much better design if it went all the way up or opened the other way. I'm not sure how to measure boxes larger than 12 inches in the future? Why build a scale that can hold up to 65 pounds when you can't fit a box more than 12 inches wide on it? Another idea might be to hold the value of the weighed item for about 20 seconds so that when the box obscures the digital display you can remove the large box and still see how much it weighs. In the future I may remove this door altogether, TBD. It also comes with an AC adapter which I will use if it turns out to be a battery hog. subject to clarification. Still, a great little scale, especially for the low price. Three stars for now and I'll review it in a few weeks/months when I have more experience.
