This is a thin wax over a layer of plastic. Mine are yellow not orange like some reviews said. They are beautiful and multiple (3 for each candle) pads on the bottom allow you to insert them into different sized candle holders. The "flames" are installed inside and are not really visible, but shine like a real candle. The only reason I'm giving them 4 stars is because of the weird issue of them being re-enabled. Once you turn them on, they will work for 6 hours and turn off. You can press that button below all day and it won't turn back on. However, if you remove the batteries for a moment and then put them back in, they will work again. I put one of them in a real evergreen wreath - if you do that the wax will come off a bit; but it still worked. For the price they are not bad.
