I've used this to install several video games from discs. I still use it to run any games that require a disc to run. Then I just disconnect the external DVD drive and keep playing. Ideal if you have a gaming laptop (or other) that doesn't have a disc drive. I would recommend this disc to anyone. The included protective sleeve protects the drive from damage during use. The cable is quite short, but it's not critical for my needs. I tested it with an Amazon Basics USB 3.0 extension cable and it worked great. Just be sure to hold it on as flat a surface as possible, although I've used it on less flat surfaces with no side effects. Ideal for travel, car rides, etc., if you just want to use it to start a game or even quickly install software from a disc. The material on the top of the lens blends so well with the outer material of my Acer Predator Helios 300 that it feels like they were made for each other.
