Review on Fovitec Continuous Lighting Equivalent Softboxes by Vickie Palmer

Wow, wow, wow. These lights are amazing. I have purchased several of these inexpensive lighting kits and can say without a doubt that this kit is the best I have ever purchased. The struts themselves are pretty sturdy, and the tubes are just under an inch thick. They are much sturdier than my old kits. I only use them with sandbags for extra security since the bulbs are CFLs. The softbox is huge! This is great for my green screen lighting application. Larger sizes mean more light spread. I notice that the light spreads very evenly, even towards the ground. The extra diffuser that goes right in front of the bulbs mixes the light from the bulbs really well so there are no hot spots. The bulbs are a lot smaller than my old 45 watt bulbs (about the size of a 100 watt CFL bulb you would buy at a store). This is a big plus as it means less weight in the mount and less storage space. I don't notice any reduction in light output compared to my other 45s. The light head is fairly well balanced. I like the 3 switches and the handle on the back. The base for the lamps is plastic, not ceramic like in my old kit. I actually prefer this as I notice the bulb feels a lot more secure and there is no slack or play. The fact that an IEC cable (the same as a computer cable) is used is a huge plus! So you can easily replace standard cables with longer ones. I bought some 25ft IEC cables and they work great! Also, most professional lighting systems use IEC cords, so this is a big step up from some other budget lighting kits. All in all I would definitely recommend these lamps to anyone and would buy them again if needed.
