Review on πŸ“ž magicJackGO 2017: Portable VOIP Phone Adapter for Unlimited Local & Long Distance Calls, No Monthly Bill - (1 Pack) by Cheryl Bailey

Revainrating 3 out of 5

Cheap phone service, but not without significant limitations.

Magicjack mainly to save money. That's about $5 a month compared to a phone connection from a regular phone service provider, which can cost anywhere from $15 to $30 a month. However, my experience so far has been mixed. Good: 1. Budget. For the first year, the cost is about $5 per month. For the second year and beyond, the cost can be as low as $3 per month depending on the plan you choose.2. The setup is quite easy and simple3. You can port your old number to Magic Jack for a fee - I'm charged $10 plus tax4. There are many good features (unlimited calls to US, Canada, free second line, etc. etc.)5. Their website is quite easy to use. What's not so obvious: 1. You have to pay for 911 service separately. About $7 for the first year in North Carolina where I live. There are some caveats to the 911 service. Bad: 1. Customer service. The only way to contact the support team is through live chat. There are no phones to call. My experience with them was pretty bad as described in my experience below.2. If you're trying to port your old number to Magicjack, it can reportedly take up to 10 days. Until the port number request is complete, you will not be able to receive incoming calls. You can only make outgoing calls. By the way, number portability is a federal law; Therefore, phone providers cannot (in most normal situations) refuse this. My Experience: I received an email from Magicjack Customer Support saying my transfer request failed because Vonage (my current provider) declined it. They suggested contacting Vonage to resolve the issue before resubmitting my transfer request. When I contacted Vonage they said nothing is interfering with the port on their side. I spoke to Magicjack and they suggested I resubmit my porting request. I did it and it was rejected again. I have contacted Vonage again and they want to know the specific reason why the request is not going through. I tried again to contact Magicjack via chat. After waiting 20 minutes for the next agent, he unceremoniously dumped me and asked me to try again later. So, after spending two or three hours on it for two days, I still can't receive any incoming calls. I have no idea why my porting request is failing or how to get it to work. Moral of the story: low prices have limits...LOL. I will update my review once this saga is over. Update 2/1/16: After harassing Magicjack via chat many times, I was promised that the issue would be escalated to upper management and someone would contact me via email. While waiting for an email from MagicJack, I received a written confirmation from Vonage that they NEVER received a request from MagicJack to port my number. Eventually I received an email from Magicjack promising to port my number by 2/5/16. I hope this passes, but I will believe if it actually happens. And so the saga continues. Update 2/11/16: No, it did not arrive on 2/5/16 as promised. But I continued to follow MagicJack via email. After several email exchanges, MagicJack customer service said they have contacted the folks at Vonage and they will be rescheduling the appointment until February 11, 2016. This time they passed. Today I received confirmation from Vonage and MagicJack that the number has been ported. I never found out what the real hang was. Well, that ends well, all right, right? I leave it at that. Since MagicJack is finally out, I'm honestly changing her rating from 1 star to 3 stars. Here is the end of my saga.
