They have a very good grip and can be used for more than just opening cans as they are very thin. I put two together and made a bathtub drain plug, one used to help a car window with a weak regulator, one placed under a car battery that lost its fixation after Walmart worked on it. I put them on all the drains in the van to keep the antifreeze from drying out. This is a good pad that will prevent your phone or anything else from sliding off the surface.
