Best Hamster Cage in Homes & Habitats Category

First off, this is NOT a rat cage, but it's good for two reasons: A. a hamster cage, or B. if you need to isolate the rat. (Believe me, I've had rats.) Rats first need a tall climbing cage and all the toys they need, in that cage you put a hammock and a toy or two and it's full and there's no room for two rats, around really run and play. . Rats MUST be so sociable that a rat can only be if it really can't get along with any rats. Even then, you'll need plenty of toys to make up for it. If it was a makeshift cage for a small rat or two I think it would be fine. NOW HAMSTER, a whole different story. I have a Syrian hamster teddy bear. Females are larger than males. She is such a sweet girl and she needed a good cage, she is too big for test tubes and we didn't want a litter cage (I highly recommend it, please note) and as most hamster owners know and everyone should know, hamsters need a big cage to need . Keep in mind that this cage I wish was a little better as you will see later in my review. But then again, a great cage for hamsters! I can fit 3 skins and the big hamster she needs and she still has room to run. She is so happy in her new cage. Availability is also worth mentioning. It's so easy to clean! There are still some problems with all of this. 1. Ramp, I actually put it in a ferret cage because I didn't want to waste it, but in this cage it's definitely a waste of time. First, it took up so much space that it makes no sense. And it didn't even stay on properly. So I took out the bowl, used the hole for the bowl and put something underneath to allow it to rise. I really wish this hole didn't exist, just a full platform. 2. I wish it was bigger, or did they suggest a bigger one, or a way to connect the two. I will post more pictures later but please see this cage compared to a litter cage for your hamster and as an isolation cage for a new rat or an aggressive rat.

Pros
  • Great for a small home
Cons
  • Questionable purchase for the elderly
