I am very satisfied with the durability of this stand! This is a standalone design. No mess! The sturdy construction makes it easy to transport from the bar to another room. . Rufus' favorite activity is ripping cardboard. The toy shelf is perfect for storing Rufus' favorite "toys". . Don't do what I did! Don't try to "save money" by building a PVC game stand. PVC fittings are much more expensive than they should be and costs are increasing rapidly. This self-contained, sturdy play bar is absolutely worth the money! **** Edit added: I've had this stand for a few weeks now. Rufus loves it! Sometimes he chooses that instead of being next to me! (As long as he's happy, I'm happy.) I have a stand on my desk so the bottom of the ladder is flush with the armrest of my Lazy Boy chair. I pick Rufus off the counter and put an armrest on him so I can pet him. When he decides he's had enough of petting, he climbs up the ladder, stands on one leg on a pole and takes a nap. **** I read some reviews where people said it was difficult to align the screw holes on different parts. Here's what worked for me. When I attached the two support rods to the two side frames, I did not fully tighten the attachment screws. This left little slack in the support rods. So when I installed the pole and step piece, I was able to rotate the support pole a bit to perfectly align the screw holes in the two pieces. After screwing the bottom of the steps to the support bar, I finished tightening the screws connecting the support posts to the side frames. . One person goes, but the help of an assistant will not hurt. I assembled it with the sides against the wall to support it. Otherwise I was afraid I would bend the screw holes if the side frame tips over. Thank you for reading this far below!
