Good balance of features: Pros: LED lights1. The display lights up nicely when parameters are changed2. Easy to read 3. Decent range (once you realize there are 2 buttons, high and low power, took me a few times to figure out the difference) Cons: 1. Mini USB, no micro. For how new it was back then, it had to be a micro.2. Both batteries had lower capacity batteries (I think they were around 1000mAh), they also failed after a year of use. It seems that one of the 3 batteries in each pack is dead.3. The latch on the back is quite cheap, it breaks with frequent use. I broke the battery and stole the charging tab from a bad bag and made a quality higher capacity NMH battery that more than doubles the 2500mAh capacity. This allowed me to use a charging cradle and a large capacity battery. Opening the back door to charge causes the lid to fail quicker (tab lock is pretty cheap) and the mini-USB port is annoying. Try to deal with that, just have a few adapters handy. I use the lighting function a lot, sometimes I can't find my flashlight and use it to find what I'm looking for or find my flashlight. It's basically a small 1-2 lumen equivalent LED pen with a range of around 20ft x 5ft, but is dim, up to 5ft at best. Check your steps or look for something you dropped or check your map etc. It doesn't work for a planned walk but it's good to have a backup in case you need one.
