Jokes aside, these are great little filter pads considering how much more expensive other brands are. You can fill them with whatever filler you like or just use charcoal. They do a good job of cleaning the water. my goldfish may score a new pad in a few days. You can rinse them out and reuse them for a while if you like, I throw out the turtle tank every month, the goldfish every other month, but I will reuse the ones from my tank. Tropical aquarium for more than 4 months depending on how well the mesh holds up.
