Brackish brown water and slime
I used to buy and treat driftwood for aquariums. I boiled them for 45 minutes before putting them in the aquarium. In just 10 hours, the water in the aquarium became brackish, brownish. I did a 50% water change and cleaned the filters. In just 24 hours the same thing happened and now slime has formed on the ends of these ultra small things.
