Wrap the fabric around the stem and then slide the clip over the fabric while pressing against the stem and hope it doesn't slip off when you touch or hit it, or you'll have to adjust it again or after the clip look for the one that flew away. no problem if your clips are much larger as the shank is in the center of the clip while only the tips of the clip only engage the fabric giving a good and secure hold. I recommend if you can find 6" or 7" clamps to get them.
