Why do you need a gate? There are so many different situations and many solutions just don't quite fit. After much deliberation we bought this product as it seemed flexible enough to suit our needs. We wanted a gate so our young dog wouldn't go upstairs and get in trouble. But our ladder diverges at the bottom. On the one hand I had to attach a new post. On the other side to the wall. But since the bottom step led to the edge of the wall, I had to secure that end around the corner. This product is regulated in many ways. The bottom bracket height can be easily adjusted to work around the baseboard. The brackets can be rotated 90 degrees. In our case, the original block was too short for our application, but extensions are available in multiple sizes (we bought a 9" extension). The gate has been in use for several months and is holding up well. The latch is a bit awkward to open with one hand (child safe) and the gate closes automatically but can be left open if opened a full 90 degrees. The only issue I had was the long length of our application it allowed to move it when opening and closing the gate. There just wasn't enough friction on the tile to keep it in place. I solved this problem by putting a small washer under the joint where the gate snaps which added some pressure (I used one of those white flat doorstops that stick to the wall to protect the drywall. Available at Lowes for a few dollars ). This gate also has a quick release feature so it can be removed from the mounting brackets without unscrewing the brackets from the wall. Useful for cleaning or when you need to carry large items upstairs. Judging by the price, this product is of good quality and well designed. However, its best selling point is how easily you can adapt it to many situations.
