This is a true pink circle. It's got a soft coating on it but it feels like pure steel underneath. I am very out of shape but I'm able to easily do several exercises with this. It feels different than a 10 lb dumbbell just because of the way you hold it-the white moves differently and is distributed differently. I specially like it for arm and shoulder workouts. I don't have to worry about it resting because of the coating on it.It's versatile. I am a 54-year-old out of shape woman and I use this, but yet my son who is 25 years old and a big, muscular weight lifter also uses it, just in different ways. I have barbells that are made much like this, and I use them in the pool some. This is just very different to hold and use because of the way the weight is distributed but I see no issues with using it briefly in the pool too and plan to do so when pool season arrives. I will just make it a point to never leave it in the pool and to make sure it's well dried after use.This has a wavy area in the covering to help one keep a good grip.
