I almost returned them because they seemed to stick open (stretched). I found this out after installing one, so it was a surprise when the heavy cover wouldn't close and the damper just got stuck in the extended position. I made a return but then decided to try hitting the end with a rubber mallet while the post was upright on the garage floor (with a piece of cardboard under the post to soften it up a bit) and that freed the post, where i can let it compress. They worked! The guide should have mentioned this as it seems to be a common problem. Good price and now they work great.
