Review on Maxxair Vent Corp 00-06401K Maxxfan DLX Vent 12V Smoke - Enhance Airflow and Comfort with the Ultimate Ventilation Solution by Brian Gordon

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Newly installed, good for HVAC

We purchased a 06401K Maxxair DLX Vent to replace the roof air conditioner in our Lance Squire Lite truck as we almost always live in a remote camp (no generator). This device does not have a remote control, it opens manually and only vents at 4 speeds. We opted for simple. At the lowest speed, fan noise was imperceptible. At high speed it was tolerably quiet. Installation is definitely a do-it-yourself project if you can safely climb onto the roof of your RV and work with power tools and cables. If you rent a 115v AC unit like we did, make sure you are disconnected from all power sources before starting and these units are heavy and uncomfortable on the roof. Be sure. The entire fan assembly fits perfectly into a 14"x14" hole, which to my knowledge is pretty much the standard hole for roof vents and residential air conditioning. I cleaned the old hole of all the old gasket and dirt with rag and acetone (our roof is made of stainless steel sheets. Other materials may not be compatible with strong solvents). We placed the 12 volt power supply just a few inches from the light. The wiring to the fan motor is about 40 acres and about 7 inches long, so it's enough to grab. I had to drill a small hole in the wood framing the hole to pass the wires through and I easily pulled them out through the hole. a hole for the light wires. The inner trim ring will need to be cut to the thickness of your roof. I simply used a utility knife lined with a piece of wood and passed it with a straight edge. The material was flimsy and soft to go through a few passes . Other items you will need to complete the project: Rag and cleaner/solvent to clean and prepare the roof Butyl caulking tape to apply between the roof and the outer flange Lap caulking (a tube is used liberally) to seal the bolts and outer edges. Some wire butt splices for crimping wires leading to a power source. Maybe some tape to keep everything tidy. Roof prep scraper #2 Screwdriver r (a drill/screwdriver makes attachment to the roof much easier). A piece of stiff wire or a wire catcher to route the fan wires to the power supply. Wire strippers/cutters/crimping pliers. I reckon this is the most helpful update we've ever made. to the caravan. This allows for some diffused light and ventilation where the unused AC unit did not.
