Review on AROMA ARD-125 Rice Dispenser: Enhance Your Kitchen with the Ultimate Rice Storage Solution by Tricia Anderson

Great if you like old computers and random portions of rice

I was very very excited about this product because we make rice very often and I thought I could get 1 cup of rice right in mine with the push of a button Rice cooker - turns out it's not. In some cases, if I press the button correctly twice, I end up with 1 cup of rice, but that's rare. Usually it's 1/4 cup less or more. If you're not very precise with your rice preparation, it might not be a big deal. However, I am considerate and expect that if I produce I will deliver 1 cup of rice at the push of a button, it should be pretty close to 1 cup. It only dispenses about 1/2-3/4 cup at a time (not the 1 cup CLEARLY stated on the unit itself) and you should be sure to measure the rice before cooking as it does not dispense a consistent or accurate amount. With enough practice I can sometimes get about 1/2 cup each time, but you can't rely on this dispenser for accurate measurements. It also randomly spits out rice when you press the button - the mine was on a grate which meant it landed on the ground. If you have dogs like me, it's no good. While it does keep, it's not bug proof at all and there aren't really any gaskets or seals, which makes me wonder how fresh it actually keeps the rice. We had a problem with food moths due to bad flour (not from this product) and after thorough cleaning/destruction it turned out that they were all hiding in the rice dispenser (which was not in the pantry). This product doesn't claim to be flawless, but it was something that made me wonder when I was contemplating buying it. Also, I thought at first that I wouldn't mind the obviously terrible design aesthetic, which is more reminiscent of a '90s desktop computer than a modern kitchen accessory. However, I really can't stand it. It contradicts everything in my kitchen and looks terribly out of place. After all, it looked like the old man's eye from Poe's tell-tale Heart - I just couldn't get over it. I had it on a rack under the rice cooker, but I had to move it to the pantry to keep it from sticking out like a sore thumb. The worst thing about this situation is that my wife thought I was crazy for buying this and I had to admit that she was right. Do yourself a favor and just buy a large, airtight, dry storage container and a 1-cup aluminum ladle. It's cheaper, bug-proof, airtight, and actually requires fewer steps.

Pros
  • Nice view
Cons
  • Sad gear
