Review on ๐Ÿšด MKS Sylvan Road Pedals Silver: Durable 9/16 Inch Cycling Pedals by Robert Moloney

Revainrating 4 out of 5

These pedals need love. before you use them. Fat love that is.

This is the second set of MKS pedals that I have purchased. Thanks for the very fast delivery. Both sets of these petals had traces of fat. However, this is nowhere near the amount of lube needed. Even if you weigh less than twenty kilos. These are new in plastic wrap, the shafts/pedal bearings feel dry. If you install them in a rusty garden, you're selling Huffy. Most likely (at least you have a pair of shiny new pedals). I got my last set of MKS pedals as a gift from a 420 Trek I built for a friend. Trust me, I rode a custom bike with the new Campagnolo Super Record titanium pedals back in the mid seventies. Plus several other bikes with the same Campy parts. These look good for the money. The packaging says Made in Japan. It's a simple task to open and oil them.1. The dust caps must be unscrewed. Lefty loose.2. Hold the pedal shaft with a suitable wrench or small vise. Remove the top 12mm nut and then the small washer.3. Then carefully unscrew the large spindle nut.4. Always keep an eye on loose ball bearings.5. Apply good quality grease to the exposed upper bearings. (second photo)6. Now screw the spindle cone nut back onto the pedal axle. properly tight A light touch is required to hold the loose bearing from the top race.7. After that, the nut of the upper spindle is twisted and well lubricated. You can flip the pedal and lubricate another set of bearings.8. Now the step that takes some time. By pressing the large (well lubricated) threaded end of the pedal shaft into fresh grease. Flip the pedal.9. Continue tightening the large spindle nut until tight.10. Insert washer and attach small lock nut.11. It should now have very little lateral play. Perhaps a third of the turn will be released from the bottleneck. 12 Now hold the large threaded end of the pedal shaft. Tighten the lock nut. (Don't break or tear it off!) You may have to repeat this part a few times to get it right. Always double check that you haven't lost the bearing from the ring. 13. Check side to side bearing clearance. You want it to have very little play from side to side.14. Apply a little extra grease to the top locknut and replace the dust cap. If you feel like it, you can just put these pedals on without oiling them. Don't forget to turn up the radio volume. All the little things add up. Unless you like the sound of an old coffee grinder rolling down the street. If you have a pair of these pedals and want them to last a long time. Open them and try to learn a few hands in time. If you are a white trail hero, always wear a good helmet. (still can't fix it, broken head) Since it helps with all those drunks without car insurance or those who write and run over people. then just go Stay healthy, God bless you.
